Circa 1950

My new pens lay forgotten on my desk while I gaze admiringly at an even more recent addition:

Typewriter

Yes, it is a portable typewriter — a Royal Quiet De Luxe with delicious green keys. It came from the ever-wonderful Zoh, who is so poised that no one even blinks an eye when she arrives at a trendy tea shop with a typewriter in tow. I have been relearning how to type on real keys by writing a slew of letters. My correspondents will have to forgive quite a few aberrations, not to mention a spelling mistake or two. But oh, it’s so much fun!

My great dream is to take the typewriter to a laptop hot-spot and sit amongst the Mac books, head held high, clattering away. I also have a secret fancy to write novels set in different eras, each in the same way an author of the time would have written. I’ll scribble my gothic romance with a quill, my moral parable with a dip pen, etc. In the case of this machine, I rather think it will turn out noir-ish mysteries, or snappy sitting room dramas, or space-age science fiction, or perhaps some beat poetry…

Thank you Zoh!
